The trees have it

It does seem that trees are the winners here. Somehow they've found a way to adapt to this arid and barren environment. But if my garden is anything to go by I know very well how relentless vegetation is. This first tree I understand never sees the light of day with these rocks casting shadow from dawn until dusk. Perhaps it's the lack of competition that has kept this specimin alive, giving it a chance to suck out any moisture left in the hidden soil below and what? getting it's fill of light from reflections off the rock? Who knows. It's majestic even without knowing it's state of being.

This last tree greets us on our exit, like an old wise guide welcoming us back to civilisation from the torture we've endured these past few hours. Ahead is just grass, mountains and, oh, miles and miles of more rocks.
