Day 1: Black hole

Oh well despite being in the heart of New York we are struggling to get any Internet access. It's just a black hole. It takes about 5 minutes to load a single web page with the hotel's Wi-Fi and connecting to the mobile network is very expensive and even then very slow. I'm going to try but it looks like this blog will grind to a halt as we just can't get a reliable connection. We might be able to sit in a Starbucks or something but I can't justify time doing that just to get online. Watch this space but you'll need some patience.
