On to Oslo

Our final and fifth leg of the day was on a standard intercity train to Oslo. It was the usual rush on board with the added twist that someone had screwed up all the seat allocations so the numbers on our tickets didn't match any of those on the seats. We were lucky because I found the train manager quickly and within 20 minutes of the train leaving we found the right seats. Others were not so lucky and were standing around looking lost for much longer. Nevertheless once we did get settled in the generous spaces we got more views of the mountains, this time a very rough granite plateau of jagged rocks and dark mountain tarns. It was almost lunar in appearance apart from the plentiful grassy brush that filled all the space between the rocks and the occasional lakes of gleaming snow so out of place in the warm sun. When we eventually reached something close to sea level and the sun had gone down we were witness to a glowing moon to compliment yesterday's sunset, together with a long rippling reflection in the many still lakes we passed on route. On the whole though we were exhausted and had to turn away from the views, if anything to give our necks a rest. It was almost an overload today. I think if we headed home tomorrow we would have already seen enough for the while holiday.
