Notre Dame

It was a short walk to the old town and our first stop was the country's only cathedral, Notre Dame. The building was started in the 1600s and finished 300 years later in the 20th Century. It's slightly unusual in being a little less ostentatious than some recent cathedrals we've visited especially that (stunning) monstrosity in Barcelona. The stained glass seems modern the the pillars decorated with geometric design that appears almost Celtic or even Islamic. None of that vertical Gothic we're used to in the Norman giants. The old town was surprisingly quiet and this was probably the busiest sight around and yet still hardly bustling. It's all quite chilled. I'm hoping to see many more cathedrals on this trip.
