Battle of Sphacteria

And this was the main reason I didn't want to miss this museum. This is a bronze shield actually used in the Battle of Sphacteria and won as a trophy. It's huge and must have required a lot of strength especially in the heat of battle. If you look closely you can see letters hammered into the bronze. To see such a beautiful piece of armour that was used in one of the many battles between Athens and Sparta is something special. It's a moment to savour.
