Temple Of Olympian Zeus

The trail continued and further south in Athens we visited this enormous temple. Only 15 of the original 150 or so columns still stand but what is there is collosal. I don't know if they are larger than the Parthenon columns but they seem like it. This building was first started in about 450AD by a conquering Emperor. It was only 700 years later, after the Athenians had finally got over the pain of their defeat that they celebrated the effort of Hadrian, yes him again, who competed the construction, no doubt with taxes lifted from the Athenians themselves. Hadrian certainly liked to build things.
