Hadrian's Wall

This is a wall to Hadrian's Library. Just one survived. But enough is enact to recognise that the alcoves built into the wall were once lined with shelves filled with papyrus. They made calculations and figured how many tens of thousands of documents the library could have once preserved. So sad that so much has been lost. So little of the works of ancient Rome or Greece have survived the centuries between. Many writers we only know from remarks made in the writings of others.
