Hallways
Our tour began with the library but we'd missed the sign and had started with the Basilica. The library was a huge rectangular room with thousands of texts going back even to 600AD. The colossal books on the shelves are all turned so pages face out to better preserve them. Throughout the monastery the walls are adorned with paintings of ever increasing significance. There is obviously something reminiscent of the Vatican here. Wasn't this art often commissioned and owned as a way of buying favours from God. Interlinking all these vast rooms were a huge range of corridors of very different designs. I photographed what I could.
