The hidden palace

The Palacio Real is extraordinarily huge. Something on the scale of Ceaucescu's palace. I hear a tour guide say it's twice the size of Buckingham Palace and the largest in Europe (if you discount Bucharest). But it's so vast it's almost impossible to photograph. You can't capture it from the front because of the gardens and trees and further back is the Royal Theatre. It's so huge in fact that even it's side view seems to dwarf Buckingham Palace. I read that even Napoleon had been jealous when he installed his brother or cousin here. This corner view hardly does it justice. It's certainly something those in poverty can feel proud of when they struggle to pay for their next meal. But we need this as otherwise nobody would know who's in charge or respect the state. Or maybe honouring our history is enough to dust 1,000 empty rooms.
