Roman latrine

The final exhibit was the Roman baths. These were the least preserved and the space much smaller and yet still they created a whole exhibit round it with information panels, reconstructions and videos. I've always been fascinated by Roman toilets. I know the baths would stink anyway because of the standing water and dead skin that would float but these toilets were literally next door. What did they do to service the stench. Or was it part of the experience?
