As we approach the palace we enter gardens first, perfectly presented gardens with delicately manicured trees and geometric lines. Around the gardens are very expressive statues I don't think the British would ever tolerate. This is Ferdinand I. The first to be crowned Emperor of Spain, about 1,000 years ago. Looks like a nice bloke. I suspect nowadays such a figure wouldn't look out of place in an ISIS hall of fame.
