Jelacic

I walked to the central square (or trg in Croatian) and everything looked quite familiar the architecture (don't ask me for names) is reminiscent of capitals all across central and eastern Europe, including Prague and Riga. The statue here of Jelacic, a hero of Croatian independence against the Habsburgs, was dismantled after WWII to make way for Yugoslavia. After the 1990 independence it was put back in place but where before the sword pointed at Austria/Hungary, it was returned in a position pointing its sword against its more recent aggressors, the neighbours in the Balkans.
