Zagreb Cathedral
It was then that rush around the streets snapping everything with our phones and knowing next to nothing about what we were looking at. I'm hoping to investigate afterwards and then out things together. At least we can say we've done Zagreb. Sort of. A hill north of the main square gave is some good views including of th cathedral although we've moved away from the cuteness of the Dalmatian cities and into the grime of any modern city. Zagreb, from our ridiculously short visit, doesn't seem to match any if those we saw in the Baltic or Scandinavia, so maybe we've just missed the best bits, or maybe they're hidden inside or further out. I'm probably being unfair. Also we tend not to explore the insides too much, like museums and cultural buildings, and the superficial exterior can hide greatness within. I remember Olso looking quite disappointing on first impressions but after a day wondering around I quickly grew to love it. But what I like the most out of all these Balkan locations is a language. Knowing that little Czech, the language here sounds so familiar even if only a few words are shared. Lithuania and Latvia are also Slavic languages but they are on the very different branch and so I always felt lost - nothing was familiar. Here it feels a little like family.
