Plains drifting
Our route was to that mountain range in the distance and back. There was little between apart from sand and the thin grass. We weren't expecting to see any game closeup. It was more a case of getting in range to recognise any black dots that might be moving among the mountains. And then recognising which species of dot.
I was having a hard time keeping Kitara moving. That grass was basically a thin layer of icing and she was having none of this walking stuff. Instead she would thrust her head down with my hands on the reins and I would have a choice between burning my hands as the strap tore through my fingers or holding tight and being thrown forward. It alternated between the two. I was guided to use a technique of forcing her, by a tug on the reins, to turn a full circle. To express my dominance. That would work for about a hundred metres and then she'd return to her snacking. It was hard work.
