Sandy tracks

Driving back, the tracks reveal the red sands that would otherwise be our singular environment without this thin sheen of grass. I have to wonder what this all would have looked like just two weeks ago after an absence of rain for nine years. It's a treat to see this grass but it must have looked equally surreal. We are very careful to follow the tracks for fear of ruining the fragile ecosystem.

Some springbok are also on their way among the grass shining bright from a cold winter sun. It's been a very fortune day for spotting wildlife and the irony is we weren't counting any game today. I even capture this (rather blurry) picture of an bird in flight. A quick scan of southern African birds and it looks exactly like a black harrier.
