Caravan

After a few days in the arid landscape of our main camp seeing nobody but the handful people working or volunteering it comes as a small surprise as we begin to see tourists in their caravans and 4x4s share the road with us. As the landscape gradually turns from arid to true desert and the already sparse vegetation becomes almost entirely absent, people take their place and this place becomes the most densely populated we have so far seen. There's an end-of-the-world feeling here. If some armegeddon should ever destroy the world, it is here people will come to see a world unchanged. In fact, I'm very aware that, with the exception of roads, this landscape is as it would have been seen when the humans first  visited here hundreds of thousands of years ago.
