Demolition

As volunteers we don't forget we are here to work but sometimes there are jobs, that when done among friends, are no longer chores. Our next task was to start the demolition of some outhouses where they will later build some new staff accomodation. It's something we are all looking forward to - to get out the sledge hammer and tear down some walls. We each take turns taking chunks out of the brickwork and then split into groups for different tasks. First I help pull apart a metal frame from another structure but we give up when our tools prove insufficient. The same happens again as we try to remove a fence post - it's buried too deeply into the rocky ground. And I almost hurt my back in trying. We eventually all return to the main demolition and help remove bricks to a separate pile for removal. It turns out to be great fun and at no point do we concern ourselves much with health and safety. There's no hard hats or eye protection round here. It's bare hands and bruises all round.
