Close encounters
It's not far back to the camp where we change, have supper and prepare food for another cheetah feeding. As we arrive at the cheetah enclosure I decide to change my camera setup, hoping to get a better shot of them feeding. However, by the time I've changed my lens the rest have already left and are on the feeding platform. I step out of the car and suddenly find myself in among seven cheetahs running around the outside of the platform. The others have already started throwing food and I'm exposed with hungry carnivores around me. I had no chioce but to keep on walking. To make matters worse however, as I step out of the car my sunglasses fall off. I pick them up and put them back on my face without thinking. You are not supposed to do that because without seeing your eyes, the cheetahs can become more aggressive. But I don't really think, I just walk trying not to face the big cats around me. Fortunately I get onto the platform unharmed, even though at one point I could hear a cheetah jump towards me from behind. Unfortunately, the feeding is almost over and so I don't get many photos. I suppose I'm just happy to be alive.
