The camera trap
The goal with laying camera traps is to find a position through which you believe your subject will pass thus triggering your cameras. Since the range isn't great, especially given you need to read markings on the animal to identify individuals, you must choose carefully. Furthermore, you ideally need to capture both sides of your subject to help with that identification. And so you set them up in pairs. To do this you need a passage with an object (bushes, maybe) either side that can hold your cameras. We find one such ideal spot where we identify clear tracks of carnivores and their prey. To make matters worse, baboons will attempt to pull apart anything that stands out - so you need to disguise them and secure them tightly.
