Archaeological museum

We came upon this museum on our free tour and we were curious partly because of the shape of the building and also because of the dig we saw earlier. The entrance fee was peanuts and we were almost the only ones inside. But don't let that trick you into thinking this museum is small time. Far from it. If you took all the best pieces from other national museums and placed them in one building you'd probably have this museum. We were awestruck by a huge number of pieces and staff inside politely ushered us through the rooms one by one. You can see two of my favourite pieces: crystal clear Roman glass and tiny Roman earrings that I just didn't realise they could produce. But there was plenty more especially of gold in the specially guarded treasures room, all from ancient Rome to the middle ages, but then also stunning palaeolithic artifacts and monuments from Rome and even items from Pompei. We don't usually attend museums on our travels but this one we really enjoyed despite our already aching feet.
