Sinaia police
I didn't hold any hope of us recovering the phone but I knew if we were to make an insurance claim we had to report the theft at the earliest possible moment. And luck would have it before we even left the station we saw a young man in uniform who turned out to be a policeman. He immediately escorted us to the police station next door and was very sympathetic. He even called Bucharest and tried to find CCTV footage, although that didn't go very far. He was aware we had plans and because he had to call in a translator he suggested we continue our trip and return at a later time. We were only there about an hour so still had enough time to enjoy the day. Again to avoid a taxi, I'd had plans to walk, but seeing the mountainous scenery and given our state, that wasn't going to be an option. The policeman went out and found a taxi driver, who he seemed to know, and we got a ride to the hotel. Oddly enough taxis here are 2-3 times the price of Bucharest, but price was never the issue. And if you can't trust taxi arranged by a policeman, who can you trust? Here is a photo of the local monastery as we get a brief tour of Siniai by our taxi driver, Sorin.
