Forum of Serdika

Further on towards the centre we came upon this archaeological dig which seemed impassable so we couldn't continue to the centre. I think we'd misinterpreted some gates as the metro and ended up walking all around the area to get across. A bit silly really. Nevertheless we did look down upon the dig in awe. We were told later this was the site of the forum of ancient Roman Serdika, the old name for Sofia. The ruins were very impressive and you could even make out piping. Apparently they might be able to open it to the public next year. In any case it's a huge chuck of the city centre dedicated to archeology.
