A slow stroll

We had free time today (Friday) until the bus to Mostar in the afternoon so took a very slow last stroll around Dubrovnik trying to take it easy after days of rushing round, climbing mountains and trekking ancient walls. We bought sandwiches for a late breakfast and ate at the foot of some steps with throngs of tourists passing in waves, led by their tour guides. It was then time for some souvenir hunting where we bought t-shirts and some books, from two book shops on this small high street, a bit of a novelty given the slow death of paper books nowadays! Everyone here speaks excellent English and I suppose given the almost complete domination of tourists in the population, it's probably death to your business if you didn't. The city, old and new, is spotless and the sight of an old woman wiping along the outside edge of her shop, along the ground, with a wet cloth, typifies how much effort everyone takes.
