Stari Most
So after being dumped in the Mostar bus station we planned to buy tickets to Split for tomorrow. I'd check the timetable online and a 4pm bus would give is time in the city tomorrow morning a early afternoon. However on enquiring in a fairly unhelpful travel agent we discovered the latest was at 1pm. After our very late arrival, this would give us little time to see the city. Disappointed but eager to get to our apartment I asked asked group of policeman for the bus or taxi and he just said walk as it was only 1km away. It seemed reasonable. And it was almost reasonable apart from the many broken pavements along which I dragged our huge wheeled suitcase. But where it became unquestionably unreasonable was when we discovered that whole old town area was covered with very old cobbles, a surface that no suitcase wheel could traverse. I had to carry the huge suitcase on my shoulder through the busy late night street markets, an ocean of sweat pouring over my face and getting lost in the maze of narrow streets. This shot was all we got of the famous bridge. With the help of some friendly shopkeepers we contacted the apartment and they came to meet us, just a few metres away in the end. Once we arrived a young man greeted us with the smile, perfect English, two glasses of fresh homemade lemonade and free ice cream. He told us they offer a service to collect from the bus station. I wanted to cry! After a brief conversation where I asked him to help us find a better solution for tomorrow's journey to Split, he let us be to shower and clean up after the very long journey. It was already 10pm and our time in Mostar seemed over before it had even begun.
